It had been a busy week at the Gallery Cafe, with people flocking to see the Bendigo Art Gallery's Piinpi exhibition in its final week.
Cafe director Daniel Hurle said staff had been expecting to be "flat out" on Friday.
They had not been anticipating arriving to a smashed glass door and broken glass at the entry.
As police collected evidence from the scene, which extended to a cracked window, the chefs inside the cafe kept preparing for the day's service.
"We're trading anyway, it won't affect us at all," Mr Hurle said.
