Communities surrounding Girgarre might still see smoke from smouldering stacks of hay near Cooma today, the Country Fire Authority has advised.
Firefighters will be monitoring the area near Masons Lane at Girgarre for the next 24 hours.
Smoke might be visible from nearby roads and communities.
Thursday morning's community information message was for people in Cooma, Girgarre, Girgarre East, Kyabram South, and Stanhope.
The fire started on Wednesday afternoon.

A WATCH and act message for the Girgarre area has been downgraded to a community information warning.
Smoke from a fire at Masons Lane may be visible from nearby roads and communities as firefighters pull apart hay to extinguish the fire.

GIRGARRE area residents have been urged to stay close to a building they can shelter in, due to an out of control grass fire.
The watch and act message has been issued for the fire at Masons Lane Girgarre, for Cooma, Kyabram South, Stanhope and Girgarre East.
The fire is travelling north from Masons Lane.
Residents of the area have been urged to stay informed and monitor conditions, such as wind speed, wind direction, smoke or poor visibility.

VicEmergency has warned if the situation changes people will need to leave quickly. Its watch and act message urges people to plan to take pets, medications and a mobile phone and charger.
