Bendigo's Discovery Science and Technology Centre will be answering those questions in their summer program.
General manager Alissa Van Soest said the centre would go behind the death-defying acts.
"We're exploring all about the circus and the science behind it," she said. "Then in the lab, families can have a go at all of the games.

"You can explore how they are tricking you and how you can outsmart the carnival games."
Ms Van Soest said it was exciting to have people coming through the centre on a daily basis after a year of lockdown.
"It's been so quiet in this massive shed without the kids inside," she said. "We have had school groups back, which has been so lovely.
"We can't wait to have even more excitement and noise."
Ms Van Soest said the summer program would start on Saturday and run every day - bar Christmas Day - until January 29.
"We are asking people to book if they can," she said. "We have patron limits but to ensure no one misses out, we will have morning and afternoon sessions.
"Everyone will have between 2.5 and three hours to explore."
Ms Van Soest said more information about the program could be found at discovery.asn.au
