The Bureau of Meteorology has warned of strong northerly winds ahead of a cold front moving across the state.
Residents have been warned to stay indoors away from windows during the winds, and secure loose items.
Other news:
Parts of central Victoria area set to be affected, including Maryborough.
In central Victorian elevated areas damaging north to northwesterly winds averaging 50 to 70 kilometres an hour are expected to develop on Saturday morning. Peak gusts are expected to reach 100 to 110 kilometres per hour.
In the southern and western districts damaging northerly winds, followed by damaging westerly winds are expected.
The State Emergency Service has advised people:
- Trees damaged by heat or fire may be more likely to fall when it is windy or wet
- Loose items, such as outdoor furniture, umbrellas and trampolines should be safely secured
- Vehicles should be moved undercover or away from trees
- To stay indoors away from windows
- Anyone outdoors should move to a safe place indoors, staying away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways
- To pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and flood water if driving conditions are dangerous
- To avoid dangerous hazards such as mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees
- Stay away from fallen power lines and assume they are live
- Monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at VicEmergency
