THE teenagers were in top form at the Bendigo Car Club’s annual Easter Saleyard Dash held at the Bendigo Livestock Exchange in Huntly.Racing in a Honda Civic, 16-year-old Rhys Howell topped the time charts in most of the tests to win the title.Runner-up was 18-year-old Craig Thomas in a Nissan Pulsar. The pair showed that you don’t need an all-wheel drive or turbo-charged vehicle to do well in this form of the sport. Jim Gill marked his first drive in a Subaru WRX to be third, ahead of Brendan Paynting in a Subaru WRX. The story was the same in the women’s section as Renee Larter drove a Honda Civic to victory ahead of Tammy Gill and Tanya Hardiman, both driving a Subaru WRX. Rhys Howell dominated the juniors, but Brayden Carss marked one of his best events in his Datsun 200B to be second in the class ahead of Brent Mackenzie in a Hyundai Excel. A first this year was the Bendigo Car Club Media Challenge. Representing the radio stations were Al from Star FM and Shaz from 3BO.The print media was represented by Aaron Stewart from The Advertiser and Andrew Perryman from The Weekly.Stewart drove superbly to achieve times that would have put him in the top 15 outright.Bendigo Car Club’s Easter Saleyards dash:Rhys Howell, Honda Civic 3:22.30.
