The aim for the sessions is to safely prepare the athletes physically for the season ahead, with the overall goal to prevent injuries after months of reduced activity during lockdown.
"The reactivation sessions are super important as being young kids they tend to start moving at 100 per cent right out of the gates," Bendigo Basketball director of coaching Joe Hurst said.
"Even though they are young they can still be susceptible to injuries and we are approaching the sessions using Rob Beveridge's 50-30-20-10 rule."
The 50-30-20-10 rule uses a gradual approach to returning to training in order to prepare the body safely to prevent unnecessary injuries.
The first of the sessions will be held this Sunday and will be conducted in an outdoor setting due to the current community sport COVID-19 restrictions.
"We received clarification from Basketball Victoria that we would only be able to conduct the sessions with a maximum of 20 athletes within an indoor setting," Hurtst said.,
"Therefore at the first session this week it will be held outdoors on BSE's outdoor artificial turf soccer pitch to ensure we can have more participants.
"Based on any changes to restrictions which could emerge on Sunday, we will then reevaluate how and where we run the future sessions."
As per the current restrictions the first session on Sunday will be non-contact and will involve getting back to the basics of basketball.
"After such a long break dribbling could be a bit shaky and passing could be off target," Hurst said.
"There will be a big emphasis on controlling things as simple as ball-handling skills as it really doesn't take long to feel a bit rusty," Hurst said.
"There will be fundamentals such as shooting, drills up and down the court, three-person weaves and running patterns to prepare them for tryouts which will then run later this month."
