The shire's council is expected to consider hiring a firm to search for its next top bureaucrat when it meets on Wednesday night.
Councillors will also consider a separate motion that would finalise arrangements for the acting CEO's role through the rest of the election period and early days of the new council.
Macedon Ranges' elections take place this weekend and the incoming council will replace Margot Stork, who left in September.
