THOUSANDS of central Victorian year 12 students put pen to paper with their peers around the state, for a test that's taken on heightened significance during the COVID-19 crisis.

Students sat the General Achievement Test, an annual exam that helps determine their final score if they are forced to miss an end-of-year assessment.

Bendigo Senior Secondary College Year 12 student Greta Schaeche said the GAT felt okay.
Ms Schaeche said it was good to see her friends face to face again.
"It was nice to be back at school. You see how hard the teachers are working and stuff, it just feels like a good vibe," she said.
Ms Schaeche was among about 950 BSSC students to sit the GAT, COVID-19 regulations meaning they were spread across 70 spaces in the school.
Ms Schaeche said she was looking forward to returning to learning at school on Monday, to start exam revision.
She said the second round of online learning was more difficult than than the first, because the novelty had worn off.
