Herbert started the final round of the European Tour event three shots off the lead.
To kick off the fourth round he opened with a par followed by a birdie, but dropped two shots on the par-four third with a double bogey.
He maintained control over the next four holes with consecutive pars, with the next birdie to come on the par-four eighth, followed by another par on the ninth.
On the back-nine he opened with a birdie on the par-five 10th, but by the 12th he dropped another shot and was only able to see out the remaining holes with pars, to finish even for the day and five-under for the tournament, five shots off the winner John Catlin (US).
Herbert's fellow countryman Maverick Antcliff secured his best ever European Tour event finish with a T3.
The top-ten finish has moved Herbert up one place on the Race to Dubai standings and now sits comfortably in seventh with 1,008.9 points.
Herbert will remain in Europe this week to compete in the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open, a Rolex Series event with $7,000,000 USD total prize pool and 7000 Race to Dubai points up for grabs.
