The centre was given a Tripadvisor traveller's choice award after it placed in the top 10 per cent of attractions worldwide. It is the latest of several tourism awards the centre has won for its high quality visitor services.
Visitor services manager Jemma Docherty said it was a positive thing to happen during the lockdown
"It's really encouraging. It's based on the 2019 year looking at the reviews, favourites and comments that go through Tripadvisor," she said.
"It is a good for the team especially. Things like the state tourism awards were cancelled, so it is a good nod to the team."
Currently, the Bendigo Visitor Centre is rated third out of 61 things to do in Bendigo with an overall 4.5-star rating on Tripadvisor.
Ms Docherty said the Bendigo Visitor Centre volunteers worked hard to provided a consistently high level of services to visitors.
"We have a great team of dedicated professionals and volunteers, who staff the centre seven days a week, every day except Christmas Day," Ms Docherty said.
"We offer booking services for tours, accommodation and experiences and provide great advice for any visitor wanting to experience the best of Greater Bendigo.
"We are continually upskilling our volunteers, so we are providing the best possible experiences."
Ms Docherty said added experiences at the centre included the new City of Gastronomy section and the Living Arts Space in the refreshed gallery space.
"The new gastronomy space is based on local producers," she said. "At the moment it is pared it back but when we open again, the fridge will have local cheese, non-alcoholic and alcoholic ciders from the area.
"We're still answering calls and emails from 9am to 5pm (during lockdown) and providing a service as best we can. Hopefully when we re-open, we can see visitors come through once more."
