POLICE have uncovered an estimated 250-plus cannabis plants in a hydroponic operation in Eaglehawk.

Sergeant Rod Davis said the Central Victoria Response Unit raided the Jobs Gully Road home about 8.10am on Wednesday, acting on information provided to police about possible cannabis cultivation.

"Upon entering the premises this morning, no occupant was located at the house - the house was vacant - but it contained an elaborate and sophisticated hydroponic set-up, which was still operating," Sergeant Davis said.
He estimated there was well in excess of 250 cannabis plants, ranging from seedlings to mature plants.

A number of rooms had been converted into growing spaces, Sergeant Davis said, and there was evidence of people staying at the property, although it was believed they were not living there permanently.
He said officers had conducted a forensic analysis of the home and there were a number of avenues to follow in the investigation.
