The key word here is infectious: The particles were not simply non-infectious bits of genetic material. Aerosols are tiny (respiratory) droplets that could potentially be emitted even from talking or simply breathing.
Earlier in this pandemic, medical authorities had not accepted this possibility and were resistant to the general adoption of masks.
More news:
Although masks are not 100 per cent effective, and vary in effectiveness, they will reduce the risk that you may infect others (or be infected yourself). Even medical staff with training in infection control can still be infected, but they encounter higher doses of the virus than most of us.
And remember, you may not even be aware that you are infectious, particularly if you are young and fit. Some people don't have symptoms.
Mask up to help us avoid stage 4 restrictions and overwhelming our hospital staff. Don't be the person who inadvertently infects the vulnerable, including your loved ones.

Humour in politics
The first thing Daniel Andrews did when he was elected was to cancel 'The East - West Tunnel Project' saying " it was not worth the paper it was written on and this would not cost the taxpayer anything".
This ended up costing the taxpayers of Victoria $1.2 Billion. Not knowing the difference between $0 and $1.2B shows ability is something you are born with and do not pick up at a University!
Since then we had 'the red shirt saga' where $388,000 of taxpayer money was fraudulently used and up to another $1m of taxpayer money was used to try and stop this being investigated.

Then we've had ministers wrongfully claiming their 'living away from home allowance', a minister having his dogs chauffeured to his country retreat, ministers resigning over 'branch stacking' and now the hotel quarantine disaster. In these times when people are struggling the politicians then go and accept a two per cent pay rise.
This must be the lowest standard government Victoria has ever had and Ken Price has never condoned any of these actions and continually blames the federal government for our problems, the strategy that Bill Shorten took to the last election.
The Victorian public and the passengers on the Ruby Princess were lucky they disembarked in Sydney and not Melbourne, or else Stage 4 could have been in months ago.
Keep up your 'political dribble' Mr Price, as I enjoy starting the day with a good laugh.
