The PGA Tour event held at TPC Southwind in Memphis is Herbert's first start since finishing second in the NZ Open back in March and his second WGC event of the year after a T58 finish in Mexico.
Herbert, who is no stranger to competing against the best, is in a field that feature's the world's top players which includes world number one Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and defending St Jude Invitational champion Brooks Koepka.
Herbert will be playing alongside Kevin Streelman (US) and Corey Conners (CAN) in round one and will tee up at 2.20AM AEST Friday morning.
Other Australians in the field are Matt Jones, Marc Leishman, Jason Day and Cameron Smith.
Herbert heads into the tournament after strong performances including his first professional victory on the European Tour at the 2020 Dubai Desert Classic and a second-place finish at the New Zealand Open.
The following week he will tee up in another of golf's majors, the PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.
He is currently ranked 73rd on the official world golf rankings and sits third on the Race to Dubai standings with 829.23 points, bolstered by his win at the Emirates Golf Club in January.
