The volunteers at Golden Square Pool haven't just been running a successful pool and community hub.
They have done so with constant uncertainty from council, many short lease agreements and returning to council meetings time and time again.
This additional pressure council keeps placing on the amazing group of volunteers is not at all fun, and yet here we are still campaigning at full strength, because we believe that our pool is an asset to our community that we need to keep.
Unfortunately, the stigma of closure due to third-party mismanagement from 10 years ago is still haunting a now very successful pool and community.
Take a look at Bendigo pools with a fresh set of eyes, at how they perform now. How can council recommend to close the pool that is currently the least subsidised pool per swim in Bendigo, with more than 18000 visits over summer.
The amount of passion the community members have for this pool is unbelievable, and is visible by the sheer number of volunteers working together as one. Keeping the pool open permanently will mean that our Volunteers can put all their energy into simply running the pool, instead of working tirelessly to also prove their worth to council.
Closure would mean the loss of a real community hub, where family and friends currently meet, whether planned or coincidental, for afternoon swims and BBQ teas.

Keep the pool and use it
Don't get rid of the pool, too many people have worked their guts off to save it.
Why can't the pool be part of the sport's facility, build over the top of it and use it as part of the athlete's training regime.
Would be that hard to work out.
Julie Martin, Bendigo
Look after what we have
Wake up in there!
Maybe close the pool, but why spend more ratepayers money on relocation of the bowling club!
Aren't councillors aware businesses and ratepayers have no more money for these extravagant proposals.
Rates should be pegged, if not even reduced, due to the current crisis.
Look after what we have, not what would be nice to have.
I believe enough wastage of ratepayers funds has been expended for extravagant projects.
