In the past week alone, Lifeline Australia has noted a 22 per cent spike in calls originating from Victoria.
Lifeline Central Victoria and Mallee chief executive Rebecca Cornish said the statewide increase in call volume has also been felt locally.
"Our demand has increased and so has our call answer volume," Mr Cornish said.
"When there is a crisis or a need, Lifeline is there to respond, with our local team answering more than 3000 calls since March."
Ms Cornish said Lifeline volunteers have been eager to spend more time in its call centres and appreciates their services are much needed.
"We expect the high demand for our service to continue for some time as the full impacts of COVID-19 are realised," Ms Cornish said.
"We are running additional training rounds to respond to the demand and would welcome hearing from people who would be interested to volunteer."
The pandemic is causing significant anxiety and uncertainty for many in the community, which is placing strain on relationships, finances and people's general wellbeing, according to Ms Cornish.
"The recent increase of restrictions in Victoria has heightened people's anxiety and stresses as they are challenged with the realisation that this is not over," Ms Cornish said.
Increased call volumes are evidence the new lockdown measures are taking a toll on the mental health of Victorians, according to Lifeline Australia chairman John Brogden.
"Lockdown means many of the important opportunities for people to connect with each other and do things they enjoy are being stopped," he said.
