A training double for Bruce and driving double for Tony Vlaeminck with Sweet Appeal and Polly Peachum at Lord's Raceway on Wednesday night was complemented by success for another of the stable's tenants Brad Stevens and his four-year-old gelding Chronicle
A relative newcomer to Stevens' small team, Chronicles produced his second win for his new trainer and third overall with a polished effort over the 1650m distance.
The gelding, patiently driven by Jayden Barker, settled at the tail of the field, but was able to assume control of the race on the home turn after travelling four-wide, before going on to win convincingly by 7.2m over Have No Choice, with the Wayne Gretgrix-trained Image Of Courage running home strongly for third at the long odds of $153.
With Victoria reverting back to regional racing, Stevens was cautious about what the immediate future looked like for Chonicles, who boasts a pair of wins and two placings among his last six starts.
"He's limited, but there's the Sires coming up if it goes ahead," he said.
"We're back in regional racing at the moment ... I'm a fan of anything that keeps us racing."
Chronicles added to a total of three winners trained at Denver Lodge on the eight-race program.
"It was a good morning out there," Stevens said.
"Tony did well getting a double. I'm not sure if he's had one before.
"Sweet Appeal we probably all thought she could win, not so much Polly Peachum, but everyone's happy.
"It would be quite staggering to think about the number of winners that have come out of Denver Lodge over the years.
With an eye to the future, Stevens hopes wins won't be too far off for his maiden filly Everybodylovesme and his 2019 Mildura Trotters Cup winner Endsin A Party, who was unplaced on Thursday night.
"Until the stand start races come back he (Endsin A Party) is a bit limited to what he can do," Stevens said.
