The still developing four-year-old mare added a second win to her resume with a tough victory at Lord's Raceway on Monday.
It was the former New Zealand pacer's second victory in four starts on Australian soil and encouragement enough for her trainer to believe there will be promising times ahead.
"She's very green .... she's a four-year-old, but she's like a two-year-old in the mind," Norman said.
"There's no doubt she has some ability. That's two wins in four starts and she galloped at her second start at Gunbower, but made up a lot of ground.
"We gave her a nice little break and she had a nice run from 11 over the mile first-up, when she ran home good for a nice sixth and then she won on Monday.
"We'll keep her ticking over and give her a few more starts and see how we go.
"We have a few little issues with her steering, but we will sort all that out. She's got a motor, that's the main thing."
Fiftyshadesofhay's first win came at her Australian debut in February, which followed the one start in New Zealand last November.
A more immediate focus for Norman will be Cee Cee In America, who will line up in a $20,000 race at Shepparton on Friday night.
"He's going good - he won a few starts back and followed up with a third against (the David Aiken-trained) Leonidas, who goes really well, and then had no luck on Monday (at Bendigo)," he said.
"He drew well on the second lane, but got buried back on the pegs and everywhere we went was a dead-end.
"But he hit the line hard, which was great to see."
Cee Cee In American will again be driven by master reinsman Brian Gath, who was in the sulky for the win aboard Fiftyshadesofhay.
Meanwhile, Norman's prowess as a trainer is being matched by his astuteness as a tipster, as the current leader of the Charlton Harness Racing Club's 'lockdown tipping competition'.
Conducted over four meetings, with contestants able to bet to the value of $15 in virtual money on the final four races on the card, the competition has attracted 172 entrants.
After the first meeting, Norman leads the way with a return of $780, ahead of Jason Frankum ($754.50), Jason McNaulty and Marisa Byrne ($688.50), and Dixie Horig ($323).
Round two will be conducted on tonight's meeting at Lord's Raceway.
