THE Shane Fliedner-trained Hi Stranger made a winning return to racing on Saturday, with the three-year-old gelding notching its second city victory.
First-up following an 11 week let-up, Hi Stranger won the Ian Miller Handicap (1000m) at Caulfield as a $21 outsider.
"He's come back in alright, so, hopefully, he might have a nice campaign and we're obviously very happy with him today," Fliedner said.
"I would have thought today he was a 5-1 chance, not a 20-1; we were quietly confident he'd go well and we'll just keep following the three-year-old races for him."

Racing for the first time on a heavy track, Hi Stranger, ridden by jockey Jye McNeil, beat Beauty Supreme ($10) by half-a-length in a time of 1:00.54.
Hi Stranger now has three wins from 13 career starts. As well as Saturday's victory at Caulfield, Hi Stranger also won at Moonee Valley in February and was also a first-time winner on Bendigo Cup day last year.
While most sport has shutdown during the coronavirus pandemic, racing - gallops, harness and greyhounds - has been able to continue and Bendigo will host all three formats this week.
Harness racing meetings will be held at Lord's Raceway on Monday night - the first race is at 5.38pm - and Thursday afternoon.
Lord's Raceway will also host greyhound racing on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, with the three meetings all twilight.
And the Bendigo Jockey Club will host an eight-race card next Sunday
