Club member Christine Van Der Zee says she was amazed to find out that a $1000 donation would mean 75 gowns can be made.
"It is expected that each gown will be used for six months so that is around 120 uses per gown," Ms Van Der Zee said.
Gowns for Doctors was created by Bendigo GPs Dr Nicole Townsend and Dr Kirby White to address a critical shortage of personal protective gowns at their practice.
Following considerable community support and interest from Bendigo and beyond, the project has taken off in communities far and wide.
Sewing enthusiasts receive a pattern and some material, much of it donated, to produce the one-size fits all gowns, to ensure medical practices don't run out of the essential item.
"The Y Service club does things to help our community and I thought this donation was something that was worthwhile," Ms Van Der Zee said.
Despite the club's membership dwindling in recent years, its members continue to remain engaged.
With coronavirus restrictions halting their weekly Wednesday meetings, club members have come up with a new way to keep in touch.
"Every week, we all write a note of what we have been up to and send a picture in.
"All the notes get compiled and sent out to members," Ms Van Der Zee said.
"We call it the Kanga Corona Capers."
Ms Van Der Zee has been a member of the Y Service Club of Kangaroo Flat for 20 years.
During self-isolation, she has reflected on what the club means to her.
"I appreciate the friendship and fellowship that you get from the club," Ms Van Der Zee said.
"We usually meet each Wednesday and have guest speakers or visit sites across Bendigo to learn more about our community.
"It gives us the chance to learn about what goes on in the community."
The club makes donations to a number of charitable and not-for-profit organisations, including Bendigo Foodshare and The Smith Family.
"We sponsor a couple of Bendigo children through The Smith Family and the sponsorship helps with their education," Ms Van Der Zee said.
