With the coronavirus pandemic forcing many school students to learn from home, Gecko has launched a new program for children and parents to access online at anytime.

This new offering comes not long after Gecko's face-to-face classes launched in Bendigo.

Those activities have been suspended and moved online due to coronavirus.

The on demand program is filling that void and has been devised in line with the national physical education curriculum.

Expert advice from medical and sports professionals has also been sought.

The online classes feature a range of sport and fun fitness classes, with music and an on screen expert coach.

Children are able to select from a range of sports and fitness programs including soccer, basketball, rugby, netball, mini Olympics and more.

Young people require at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity every day, according to the World Health Organisation.

Gecko's offering will ensure children find their 60 minutes of physical education and activity every day.

WHO credits exercise as "providing young people opportunities for self-expression, confidence building, social interaction and integration".

Director Kim O'Donnell says the Gecko's program has been created to help Australian families during this stressful time.

"Helping kids stay active, healthy and happy during isolation is our number one focus," Ms O'Donnell said.

"Exercise a crucial part of any child's development.

"Now more than ever children need to be active throughout the day with something fun and engaging to do."

Neuropsychologist Hannah Blaine helped create the program.

She says it offers an interactive and fun take on sports.

"It inspires children to be physically active.

"They can try a range of different sports and develop confidence through physical activity" Ms Blaine said.
