Bureau of Meteorology data shows the temperature was 3.8 degrees at 5.30am on Friday - but the apparent temperature was 2.2 degrees.
It was a significant drop from the previous morning, when the low was recorded at a relatively balmy 13.2 degrees.
Prior to Friday, the coldest temperature Bendigo had seen this year was 6.3 degrees, 10 days ago.
Friday will warm to a mild, partly cloudy day with a top of 19 degrees.

Elsewhere, Castlemaine can expect to reach 17 degrees, Maryborough and Echuca 19 degrees, and Kyneton 15 degrees.
Bendigo can expect similar conditions over the weekend, with a mostly cloudy day on Saturday and another partly cloudy day on Sunday, with maximum temperatures of 17 degrees and 18 degrees, respectively.
The beginning of next week is likely to bring rain to the city, with forecasters expecting a high chance of showers on Monday and falls of 4 to 8 millimetres.
