After consultation with Cricket Victoria, the BDCA has decided to follow Cricket Australia's recommendation and cancel this weekend's senior and junior grand finals.
"Guided by advice received today from Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria it is with considerable regret that the BDCA board has decided to cancel the 2019-20 finals series,'' BDCA president Wayne Walsh said in a latter to clubs.
"The board feels it must take this seriously in order to assist with the COVID-19 risk mitigation measures and help protect the wider communities.
"The BDCA board will meet over the next few days to decide on the awarding of premierships across the senior and junior competitions."
Strathdale-Maristians finished on top of the first XI ladder ahead of its grand final opponent Huntly-North Epsom.
Under BDCA rules, the highest ranked team is declared the premier if the grand final is abandoned because of wet weather.
A scenario such as a pandemic is not covered in the rules.
The Emu Valley Cricket Association will make a decision on its grand finals at a board meeting on Wednesday night.
Cricket Australia chief executive officer Kevin Roberts made the recommendation about cancelling cricket earlier on Tuesday.
"By effectively cancelling the remainder of our season, Cricket Australia is playing its part in protecting fans, players, staff, volunteers and match officials during this unprecedented global health issue," Roberts said.
"These are difficult decisions, but the right ones in the circumstances.
"Many will no doubt be disappointed that the Sheffield Shield, Premier Cricket and Community Cricket seasons won't have their traditional ending.
"As organisations around the world rally to slow the spread of the coronavirus, it's important that we also provide decisive leadership.
"We hope that by taking these actions now - in addition to those announced in recent days - we can contribute to 'flattening the curve' of coronavirus and society returning to normal as quickly as possible."
Cricket Victoria backed Cricket Australia's recommendation to cancel all cricket for the remainder of the season.
"Cricket Victoria strongly recommends and expects local community cricket and school competitions to take the same leadership position and cancel all cricket playing and training activity for the remainder of the 2919-20 season in response to this unprecedented global health issue,'' Cricket Victoria's statement said.
"We know many people in cricket communities around Victoria will be disappointed with this decision, but it has been made in our communities best interests in line with government and expert medical advice from Cricket Australia's chief medical officer John Orchard."
