The best way to protect them for the future is to follow recommendations and make them national parks.

Change not always easy
Based on a single presentation by Dr Finkel, and including factually bereft claims, Ian Cooper (Letter of the Week winner, Bendigo Advertiser, February 29) would have us all believe that as a country Australia is doomed and lacking in smarts.
A chief scientist does not spend hours adjusting the flame on a Bunsen burner in a laboratory nor countless hours running Python-based algorithms to test unproven climate change models.
The chief scientist is reliant on, and a presenter of, material provided by a host of organisations including the formerly august CSIRO and Bureau of Meteorology, each of which were evasive or non-committal when questioned at the recent Estimates hearings.
Those who demonise old technology have no understanding of the current tenuous state of power generation by renewables.
To accept an orderly transition away from coal also requires acceptance that total reliance on renewables requires significant development that we are yet to see.
Historical evidence and meteorological data, easily accessed does in no way support the spurious claims of increased fires, more severe weather events or substantial rises in sea levels, however, annual increases to insurance premiums are a given.

What's the fuss?
Can someone please explain to me, what is this strange phenomenon and the apparent attraction and the need for toilet paper.
Brendan Leach, Bendigo
Stupidity unmasked
I saw with my own eyes a supermarket empty of toilet paper and tissues.
It brought to mind a text message I saw in another newspaper: "I am going to wear a mask in public, so I don't catch dumb."
Can't argue with that.
