MORE CRICKET - NUCA GRAND FINAL - Elmore wins first flag for 22 years
STRATHDALE-Maristians has secured another piece of silverware, adding the BDCA's Keck-Findlay Shield to the Cricket Victoria Regional Big Bash title it won just over a month ago.
The Suns defeated Huntly-North Epsom by six wickets in Sunday's one-day final at Eaglehawk's Canterbury Park.
The Suns (one-day) and Power (Twenty20) now share two of the BDCA's three first XI trophies on offer this summer and are also the pace-setters in the season-proper, sitting first and second.
The Power recovered from a precarious 7-70 in the 26th over of its innings batting first to post 145.
The Suns took 41 overs to mow their target down, answering with 4-148.
Man-of-the-match honours went to Suns' all-rounder James Vlaeminck.
Opening the bowling with his off-spinners, Vlaeminck had figures of 4-14 from his first 32 deliveries before finishing with 4-20 off nine overs.
Vlaeminck also made 35 opening the batting in the Suns' successful run chase.
The game's top batting performance came from in-form Power No.4 Danushka Wijemanna.
Wijemanna cracked 77 off 83 with seven boundaries and one six and was well supported by No.9 Lewis Stabler (24), with the pair putting on 68 for the eighth wicket.
Opener Cameron Taylor (37) top-scored in the Suns' innings after earlier taking 2-22 with his leg spin, while the Power's Adam Ward (0-13 off 8) bowled without luck.
Star all-rounder Ward didn't concede a run off the bat until his sixth over.
The Power didn't help their cause by dropping five catches.
The Suns have now won six Keck-Findlay Shields - which honour Doug Keck and Barry Findlay - since it was introduced in 2009.
"We really like that the league has prioritised the shield and made a final out of it. Given the Findlay connection at our cricket club through Barry and Geoff, we're rapt to get the opportunity to play a final for it," said Suns' skipper Ben DeAraugo, who made 11 n.o. and hit the winning runs.
"Huntly is a quality opposition and it was a good test for us today."
