"I did play basketball when I was younger and thoroughly enjoyed it.
"I was terrible though," the board member turned chair said.
After serving on the Bendigo Basketball Association board for four years, Ms Wright stepped up to the role of chair.
"It's a leadership role and something I was interested in, particularly focusing on the opportunities for the stadium.
Bendigo Stadium's well documented expansion and redevelopment has been a hit for the region, something Ms Wright is eager to develop.
"We have this amazing new arena and when you look at our profile as a regional location, when it comes to the arena that we have, it is as good as sites in Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth," Ms Wright said.
The potential to attract entertainment, conference and sport to Bendigo Stadium is part of unpacking the venue's full potential.
"It's such a great opportunity for the city.
"I have a career in marketing and this is as good an opportunity as we will have to bring people here and show them what we have," Ms Wright said.
Completing her undergraduate studies at La Trobe University in Bendigo, Ms Wright moved to Melbourne to work in the banking and finance sector.
"I started my career in Melbourne working in various corporate organisations and one day, I was sitting in horrendous traffic.
"I thought this wasn't the lifestyle I was looking for.
"My partner is from Ballarat and we made the decision that we wanted to move to a regional location," Ms Wright said.
Born in Eaglehawk, Ms Wright returned to Bendigo 11 years ago, completing a masters degree at La Trobe University.
"I was approached seven years ago by the Bendigo Basketball Association to fill a vacancy on their board.
"They were looking for someone that wasn't as heavily involved in the sport as others," Ms Wright said.
Bendigo Stadium's versatility is one of its biggest drawcards, according to Ms Wright.
"You can go from having a conference event in the day to a gala event in the evening.
"We don't have any other spaces in Bendigo to that scale," Ms Wright said.
Mother to a young daughter, Ms Wright is also passionate about women in sport.
"It's not just about women in sport at the elite level, but its making sure we encourage women of all ages to participate," Ms Wright said.
