Those on low and very low incomes are struggling the most in the search for suitable houses that meet their budgets but even some on moderate incomes are struggling.
That observation - from a City of Greater Bendigo background paper released last month - triggered Wednesday's meeting of council officers, housing workers, real estate agents and people living the problem, mayor Margaret O'Rourke said.
"That lived-experience was particularly important. It helps everyone in the room get that understanding far more than a report can," she said.
The council wants to advocate more vocally for social and affordable housing and Cr O'Rourke said ideas raised this week will be considered for a new council strategy.
