Located in Bendigo's Pall Mall, the Gianna Centre provides approximately 2000 forms of assistance every year.
This assistance can take many forms, such as professional referrals, delivery of emergency relief, provision of emotional support and education via school workshops and parenting programs.
Founded in 2004 and named after a founding member, the Gianna Centre's passion for caring for individuals and families who have fallen on difficult times and need a hand to get back on their feet has remained strong.
The Gianna Centre's vice president Anne O'Brien said the idea for the centre came when one volunteer knew a young mum expecting her first baby.
"This mum didn't have much emotional support during her pregnancy and was unable to organise all the baby items that were needed.
"The volunteer remembered how her own pregnancy was supported by family and friends and wanted to do something to help others less fortunate," Ms O'Brien said.
The Gianna Centre's small group of volunteers give their passion, time and effort, but there are many other ways to get involved in the good work the centre does.
"Apply for grants, fundraise, listen, delivery baby items or organise clothes.
"There is a special role for the dedicated volunteer to help the world become a better place," Ms O'Brien said.
The centre is constantly growing and evolving to meet the changing needs of its clients.
A recent growth area has been services to support stillborn and neonatal death.
"The Gianna Centre has helped many families suffering loss and grief after a baby dies.
"To have a baby die is one of the saddest experiences for a family to suffer," Ms O'Brien said.
The Gianna Memorial Wall in Remembrance Park, Eaglehawk features a plaque to honour babies who have died during stillbirth, miscarriage, abortion or termination.
"The Gianna Memorial Wall is a peaceful place in Eaglehawk to come and remember these little ones that have touched our hearts," Ms O'Brien said.
