THE harness racing industry's Team Teal initiative is in full swing having commenced the six week campaign of raising funds and awareness of Women's Ovarian Cancer and Women Can on February 1.

During the campaign all women harness racing drivers wear specially designed teal pants and in Victoria both Harness Racing Victoria and TABCorp donate $200 to the charity every time a reinswoman wins a race in Victoria.
Last year the Bendigo Greyhound Racing Association joined with the Bendigo Harness Racing Club in supporting Team Teal and this Thursday night the two clubs will conduct a dual code meeting, a night that is expected to grow into a significant charity and community event in years to come.
The Bendigo Greyhound Racing Association this year will donate $200 for every winner driven by a female driver at the Bendigo Harness Racing Club's teal meeting, as well as $200 for every winner trained by a female trainer at the greyhound meeting on the same night.
"The BGRA is proud to be able to support various charities and community groups and pleased to be involved in raising funds and awareness for again for this worthy cause as well as support our harness racing neighbours in their team teal campaign" said BGRA manager Troy Harley.
"Obviously there is plenty happening in the fund raising space at present but awareness is just as important for illnesses such as ovarian cancer and this year our focus is primarily on raising that awareness and supporting the harness events with the view of adding more to the cause in future years."
Racing Thursday night commences at almost the same time on both tracks with the first harness race set down for 6.13pm and the opener at the greyhounds at 6.14pm.
