THE 2010s for Lockington-Bamawm United in the Heathcote District league was a decade of both sustained success at the top, but also rebuilding from the bottom.
Before the North Bendigo-Leitchville Gunbower rivalry took hold of the competition in the back half of the decade, the 2010s were owned by the Cats.
The disappointment of losing the 2010 grand final to Heathcote fueled a desire that propelled the Cats to four premierships in a row between 2011 and 2014.
The Cats won flags twice against North Bendigo (2012 and 2014), as well as beating Heathcote (2011) and Huntly (2013) during their premiership four-peat - a feat that was last achieved in the league by Heathcote North during the 1950s.
The Cats were a powerhouse through those four years, finishing on top of the ladder in each of their premiership seasons except for 2014 and winning 65 of their 74 games.
Their two grand final wins over North Bendigo couldn't have been more contrasting.
Their 2012 victory against the Bulldogs was a brutal 94-point demolition, while the Cats needed every bit of grit and determination in 2014 to come from 26 points down during the third quarter and win by 11.
The hard-fought 2014 triumph was coached by star midfielder Adrian Dohnt, while forward Kahl Oliver was at the helm for the first three flags.
As well as coaching the 2014 premiership, Dohnt also won the decade's first Cheatley Medal in 2010.
However, it wasn't all smooth sailing for the Cats during the decade.
Following their 2014 flag the list turned over significantly and the loss of a large chunk of experience and premiership pedigree sent the Cats into a rebuild.
Between 2015 and 2017 the Cats won just seven games, including the wooden spoon in 2016, which seemed unthinkable during the height of the LBU dominance.
However, the return of Oliver as coach of 2018 signaled the beginning of the re-emergence of the Cats, who now enter the 2020s decade with the makings of another potential dynasty.
From a football perspective, the Cats were the league's most successful club of the decade, winning a total of eight premierships - four in the seniors, two in the reserves and two in the under-17s, including the trifecta in 2011.
