The Opals had a challenging task at hand at the qualification event in France.
The tournament included three games, with the Opals falling in their first match to the hosts 72-63.
In order for the Opals to qualify they had to finish within the top three of their pool.
They dug-deep in their second match to defeat Puerto Rico 100-74 and backed it up with another strong win in their third where they triumphed over Brazil 86-72.
The squad included Bendigo's Tessa Lavey who was called upon to join the team in France as a last minute injury replacement.
Head of Women in Basketball Lauren Jackson said the performance highlighted Australia's strength.
"We are seeing some of the best basketball in the world at the moment," Jackson said.
"The Opals' performance during the Olympic Qualifying tournament is only a small taste of what this team can achieve, especially when given more time to gel in the lead up to the Olympics.
"Bring on Tokyo 2020."
