The Eaglehawk resident turned 100 on Saturday and enjoyed lunch with a room full of family and friends.
But she wasn't too worried about the celebrations.
"I feel alright myself today," she said. "I'm lucky to get to 100 and not have anything wrong. My brain hasn't faltered."
Ms Poynton's children Sue Rawlings and Terry Poynton helped organise the celebrations on Saturday.
The 100-year-old also has nine grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Ms Poynton grew up in Quarry Hill and went to school at St Joseph's and St Mary's before working at a grocers in Hargreaves Street until the family moved to Melbourne.
She married in 1947 and moved with her husband Pat to Ampitheatre where they worked on an orchard. They then worked cows in Burrumbeet before going to Harcourt to work at another orchard.
"I had to milk 30 odd cows with the machines," she said. "I couldn't have milked them by myself."
From 1962 they owned the milk bar on Eaglehawk Road, which affectionately become Poynton's Store.
In her life Ms Poynton has beaten breast cancer, bowel cancer, had two hip replacements, had cataracts and laser treatment.
Her daughter Sue Rawlings said Ms Poynton's positive attitude had kept the centurion going.
"Everything life has thrown at her, she's beaten," Mrs Rawlings said. Her biggest thing is her positive attitude. It's a great example to all of us.
"She has always said 'if you get bad news, there's no use worrying about the worse things that can happen'.
"It's great to be able to celebrate her life while she is still with us."
Ms Poynton shared her secret to a long life on Saturday while celebrating.
"Most of my life I have drank coke and coffee. I hate water," she said.
She also reflected on her glass-half-full attitude to life.
"I was 99.5 half when I stopped living (in my own) home," she said.
"You have got to take whatever comes and make the best of it.
"Don't look for trouble, but if you get it, don't dodge it. Just face up to it and make the best of it."
