Loddon Shire Council has an interim chief executive officer, with Phil Pinyon expected to be on leave until February.
Allan Bawden yesterday headed up his first council meeting since starting in the role on November 27.
This is the third time in three years that the experienced local government sector employee has been a locum chief executive officer for a Victorian council.
Mr Bawden has worked at both Ararat and Mildura councils. He was previously the chief executive officer of the Bass Coast Shire Council for almost 20 years.

He said the circumstances of each of the interim CEO positions he had accepted to date had been different.
The Loddon Shire Council said Mr Pinyon had taken leave for an extended period for family reasons.
Mr Bawden was at Ararat in the wake of a commission of inquiry. He was at Mildura while the city sought to recruit a new CEO.
