A 15-year-old girl has narrowly escaped injury after a California Gully home was shot at in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Police were called to the Westwood Drive address about 4.45am on Tuesday after the drive-by shooting.
Bendigo Detective Acting Sergeant Glen Fisher said witnesses heard up to five gun shots.
Six people were home at the time, including four children aged between one and 15.
Detective Acting Sergeant Fisher said a bullet went through the window of the 15-year-old girl's bedroom, where she had been sleeping.
"It's very fortunate that she hasn't been shot," he said.
"Considering a 15-year-old girl narrowly avoided injury, those people that may not give information in these circumstances should break their cone of silence."
Victoria Police ballistic experts came from Melbourne to investigate the scene on Tuesday morning.
Detective Acting Sergeant Fisher said it was too early to say what the motive was behind the attack.
"We're not ruling anything out," he said. "The family has been speaking with us and will continue to speak to us until we get to the bottom of this.
"It's not in the spirit of Christmas.
"We will exhaust all avenues of inquiry. We will wait and see what the crime scene tells us and what we can learn from the information from the public."
Detective Acting Sergeant Fisher said the family was shaken up by the incident.
"I can't underestimate the danger that 15-year-old girl was in," he said.
"We have to look at the reasons behind this, but I dare say she's an innocent part in this."
Police have spoken to residents in the area and are sourcing CCTV footage.
"Whether it was in this area or any other area, this is uninvited, it's unwelcome and we're not impressed," Detective Acting Sergeant Fisher said.

DETECTIVES are investigating after an overnight drive-by shooting into a residential house at California Gully.
What was believed to be gunshots were heard about 4.45am on Tuesday.
Police arrived at the Westwood Drive home shortly after.
A number of bullet holes were located.

Police are treating the incident as a targeted attack.
People were home when the shooting occurred, but no one was injured.
