Update 3.30pm: One man is assisting police with inquiries after a house fire in Kangaroo Flat.
Sergeant Andrew Bowen said police expect the arson chemist to attend on Monday.
He said the house would be guarded overnight and urged any witnesses of the blaze to contact Bendigo police station or Crimestoppers.
3pm: A Kangaroo Flat street is blocked in both directions after firefighters were called to a house fire.
Hill Street is closed as seven fire crews attend the house. Police are also on the scene.
Smoke is still coming out of the house.
There are no paramedics at the scene.
The cause of the fire is still to be determined.
