TALENTED youngsters Harrison Boyd and Logan Tickell had a great duel in the latest round of the Adam Parker Electrical-backed Tuesday Night Series for athletes at Flora Hill.
A field of 41 contested the 3000m event at the Latrobe University Bendigo athletics complex in Retreat Road.
Boyd, 14, broke the 10-minute barrier for the first time as he won the 7 1/2 lap showdown in 9:58.82 to add to the Bendigo Harriers' tally of Tuesday Night winners.
Tickell's time of 10:02.15 broke the Centre record for the under-13 class.
Racing in the South Bendigo colours, 12-year-old Tickell beat the previous record of 10:10.7 achieved by Ian Prendergast racing for Bendigo Harriers at the Epsom track on January 23, 1993.
Fastest female in Tuesday's race was Glenhuntly's Tarli Bird in 10:43.29.
Others to impress included University's Luke Millard, 10:35.18; Invitation runner Patrick McCarthy, 10:37.31; South Bendigo's Thomas McArthur, 10:49.36; and University clubmates Rik McCaig and Andrew Creer, 10:58 and 11:00.
One of the major events in the Flack Advisory Bendigo Region track season will be run next Tuesday at LUBAC.
The Leigh Purtill 10,000m championship will be raced from 7pm.
Meanwhile, round five in Athletics Victoria Shield League will be run this Saturday at LUBAC.
First of the track events are the sprint hurdles from 1.30pm.
Other events on the track program are 100m, 1500m, 4 x 100m relay, 3000m or 2000m steeplechase, and 400m dash.
A non-scoring 1500m or 3000m walk will also be contested at 1.45pm.
Field events are shot put, javelin, long jump, and pole vault.
