"Dylan (Klemm) is quicker this season and he still has some room left in the tank for more."
The Kangaroo Flat great had a perfect view in the field of Klemm's record-breaking nine-wicket haul for the Roos against Strathfieldsaye on Saturday.
He wasn't surprised that the 21-year-old quick produced figures of 9-34 off 16 overs.
"Dylan has had as big a pre-season as anyone I've seen,'' Burns said.
"He's honed his skills and it was good to see him get the rewards.
"His first spell was exceptionally quick and conditions were perfect for pace bowling. He's gained a few yards this year and that first spell was phenomenal.
"This year he has improved on bouncing back in his second spell and his second spell on Saturday was superb.
"He used the short ball really well and took the gloves a couple of times."
No other bowler in the BDCA has taken more wickets in the past 20 years than Burns.
The left-armer is the perfect role model for young bowlers.
"I've been speaking to Dylan a lot on and off the field and he is a good listener and he wants his game to evolve,'' Burns said.
"He used to be a fairly erratic bowler and he didn't have the energy to bowl long spells or come back and bowl additional spells.
"He deserves all the credit for working hard at training to keep pushing through.
"To get the results you have to be prepared to work hard and he's doing that."
Burns tested himself at Premier Cricket level with Geelong and he has no doubt that Klemm would make the grade in first XI cricket in Melbourne.
"He's in a similar mold to Xavier Crone in that he's tall with long levers,'' Burns said.
"He has the ability to go on and play at a higher level if he wants to do that."
