Update, 11am:
Police are investigating a fire that broke out in a Golden Square home on Wednesday morning.
Investigators from the arson team are expected to arrive later in the day to determine what caused the fire in the Chum Street house.
Detective Senior Constable Misha Oldmeadow from the Bendigo Crime Investigation Unit said police would work to determine if the fire was suspicious.
He said the firefighters did a good job of containing the fire to the kitchen area.

A fire has damaged a house in Golden Square.
The Country Fire Authority was called to the unit on Chum Street just after 9.30am.
The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes.
Detectives are investigating.
