Greater Bendigo welcomed its newest Australian citizens at a ceremony on Monday night.
Fifty-six people from countries including Russia, Egypt and the Netherlands will become Australian citizens at the ceremony at Bendigo Town Hall.
Over the year, Bendigo has seen 202 people become Australian citizens.
City of Greater Bendigo mayor Margaret O'Rourke said conducting the citizenship ceremonies was a wonderful part of her role.
"They are a beautiful ceremonies and it is always a joyous occasion," she said. "Some are emotional because all of sudden for people it's a big step but it is really lovely when you smiles on people's faces.
"Everyone's story is different. Some came here for work, some have followed family here and others that have arrived are refugees."
Cr O'Rourke said the town hall also provided a great backdrop for the ceremonies.
"It's a beautiful building and a lovely place for it," she said.
