UPDATE 5pm: Thousands of people without power in central Victoria and the Mallee can expect to have their power restored by 9pm.
Powercor crews are at the site of the fault and working to restore power.
The outage was caused by a broken power line.
UPDATE 3.10pm: Powercor has revised the estimated time for restoration of power to thousands of properties affected by a blackout to 7pm.
The fault that caused the outage occurred about 2.10pm.
EARLIER: More than 7700 properties across central Victoria and the Mallee are experiencing a power outage.
Powercor and CitiPower information shows the outage is the result of a fault on the Boort-Charlton Road at Charlton.
St Arnaud, Wedderburn, Wycheproof and Donald are among the locations affected.
The cause is listed as being under investigation, with an estimated restoration time of 3.30pm.
