A RESCUE team has reunited a border collie with a teary owner after it was trapped down a mine shaft for days.
The "very lucky dog" escaped unharmed, despite falling at least 10 metres.
The Bendigo Oscar1 mine rescue team set up a portable rope system to lower a member down the mine shaft near Maldon at about 6.30pm on Friday.
Lieutenant Owen Shay said the dog was very excited when the member got down to it.
After putting the dog in a support, the team lifted them both out.
The whole process took just about half an hour, with about seven team members.
Lieutenant Shay said the "very lucky dog" escaped without broken bones, probably because debris softened its fall.
He said it was always good to see an owner happy to have their dog returned.
