ANZ general manager for Victoria and Tasmania Michael Wake said transactions in the branch had declined eight per cent year on year.
Mr Wake said only 16 per cent of home-customers of the Castlemaine branch use the branch itself. Sixty-eight per cent use online and mobile banking.

ANZ flagged in November 2018 that it expected to close further branches over the following two year period.
The Castlemaine branch is due to close on March 5, 2020.
An ANZ ATM will remain in Castlemaine.
Mr Wake said ANZ was in discussions with branch staff, to support them through the adjustment period, and try to find suitable redeployment opportunities within the bank.
He said ANZ would write to customers to outline alternative ways to do their banking, including online, telephone and mobile.
"These decisions are never taken lightly. They are carefully considered, taking many factors into account including the potential impacts on our customers," Mr Wake said.
"We apologise for the inconvenience we know this will cause some of our customers. Our decision to close Castlemaine has been made due to the decreased number of customers using the branch in recent years."
