KANGAROO Flat's under-18 team has the chance on Saturday to win the club's first football premiership for more than 20 years when it takes on Sandhurst.
The Roos and Dragons will kick off BFNL grand final day with the under-18 contest from 9.15am.
Since joining the Bendigo league from the Golden City league in 1982 the Roos have only won three football flags - back-to-back in the reserves in 1982 and 1983 and their senior triumph in 1996.
Outside of those three flags, the only other grand final appearance by a Roos' football team was when their seniors lost to Castlemaine by 12 points in 2000.
"The boys have done a really good job for the club... it's obviously been a long time since we last had a footy side on grand final day, but the boys have been able to exceed a lot of expectations," Roos coach Jason Stevens said on Friday.
The Roos hit the grand final riding an 11-game winning streak, which includes victories in three cut-throat finals against Golden Square by one point in the elimination final, Gisborne by 13 points in the first semi-final and Strathfieldsaye by nine points in last week's preliminary final.
"The boys have played with plenty of grit and determination over the finals," Stevens said.
"We're more than happy to take on the underdog tag Saturday, but we haven't lost since June, so we're in some pretty good nick and I'm really proud of the effort the boys have put in.
"The boys have been challenged all through the finals and been able to step up."
Kangaroo Flat boasts both the competition's George Symons medallist in midfielder Mitch Trewhella and leading goalkicker Lachlan Wilson (47).
The Dragons, coached by David Gallagher, have won both meetings with the Roos this season, although, there was just one point the difference in their last encounter in round 10 at the QEO.
After finishing second on the ladder, the Dragons booked their berth in Saturday's decider with a qualifying final win over Gisborne (13 points) followed by a second semi-final victory against Strathfieldsaye (15 points).
The quartet of Noah Walsh, Caleb Connick, Cobi Maxted and Isaac Carracher have been standouts in both the Dragons' finals wins.
Saturday is the fourth-consecutive under-18 grand final Sandhurst has played in, although, the Dragons have lost the past three.
