William Slater, 40, asked magistrate Simon Zebrowski to sentence him for the crime, although Mr Zebrowski said it was a matter that had to be determined in the County Court.
It is alleged Mr Slater stole $85 from the White Hills business when he robbed it while armed with a brick.
He did not appear for bail at Monday's hearing and was remanded in custody to a committal mention in November.
