THE upgraded Strathdale Park Play Space was well worth the wait, Greater Bendigo public space design coordinator Aaron Lindsay said.
He said the third and final stage of the $745,000 project was delayed by issues with finishing off a number of shelters - some one of the few features not made directly in Bendigo.
The city took to social media earlier this month to inform residents the play space would open later than expected, due to some plumbing issues.
"We had a few delays with finishing the shelters off," Mr Lindsay said.
"I think the final product is well worth the wait."
Wednesday:
IT's a moment about four years in the making.
The third and final stage of a $745,000 Strathdale Park Play Space upgrade opens tomorrow.
New play equipment, seating, shade shelters, and a junior water and sand play area have been added to the space.
A three-dimensional concrete gecko wraps around the sand pit. The gecko is decorated with coloured mosaic tiles created by Kennington Primary School students with the help of artist Kerry Punton.
A water channel meanders through the play space. It features blue textured pebbles made by children participating in a workshop in Hargreaves Mall.
December 2015: Unique play hive part of new park project
City of Greater Bendigo parks and open space manager Paul Gangell says the upgrade provides exciting new play opportunities and outdoor activities for children of all ages and abilities.
Earlier stages included new additions to the play space, such as a wheelchair-accessible carousel and a nature play area with a timber play hive and gigantic gumnuts.
The Crook Street carpark was reconfigured to allow for a five-way swing. The former asphalt path was made over into a canvass for a colourful painting of native animals.
Works started in 2015.
Plumbing issues earlier this month delayed the opening of the play space by almost two weeks.
Mr Gangell says the play space is one of the city's most visited recreation areas.
