Forming part of a new trail that will go along Forest Creek to Western Reserve, the crossing will be in stalled later this year along with seating, drinking fountains and signage along Forest Creek and in location such as Castlemaine Botanical Gardens, along Gingell Street and Campbells Creek Trail.
The project, which is an initiative of the Loddon Campaspe Regional Partnership, has been given the green light following a $300,000 grant from Healthy Heart Victoria.
Mount Alexander Shire Council mayor Bronwen Machin said the initiative was to help people get out and about.
"The crossing and new accessible trail will link up with other tracks and trails to make it easier for people to get active through walking, cycling and scooting," she said. "The project aims to help make it easier for people to make healthier choices and reduce their risk of heart disease, obesity and cancers, which are at higher than average levels in our region."
