When it came time to write the submission for the Bendigo Business Awards, the McKean McGregor team just divvied up the work.
The real estate and livestock agency established in 1911 was named business of the year on Friday night.
Chief executive Todd Brown puts the recognition down to giving clients a great experience and the team working together on all fronts.
"We all try to be on the same page and focus on the client and their experience," Mr Brown said.
"When you're nominated you have to answer questions, it's a reasonable amount of work to do the submission justice and in a busy time leading to up June 30.
"After I let the team know about our nomination, they got together, allocated questions to each other and come up with input and helped pull the whole thing together
"It shows the engagement in our team."
Strong values and a willingness to innovate were two of the reasons McKean McGregor secured the business of the year and the professional service award.
General manager of sales Glenn Rea said they were an old business who weren't afraid of innovation.
"Our type of business is a bit old fashioned but we try to bring a lot of innovation to our team," he said.
"The team is so well aligned with our values, they know what we're setting out to achieve today but where we're going tomorrow.
"There's a good quote I told the boys that I thought was indicative of our team and that's that the people of Bendigo think we sell sheep, cattle and houses but we just help people.
"That's the objective of the whole team and that's when we perform the best. We want to help our clients get the maximum (return) we can. Whether people are selling property or livestock, they want to get the best result possible and our job and objective is to help them."
McKean McGregor was one of about 150 Bendigo businesses to be nominated for an award on Friday night.
"It's exciting for Bendigo that there are so many businesses doing well," Mr Brown said.
"We are really humbled to be recognised and definitely have to acknowledge other the other finalists and Be.Bendigo for a great initiative.
"So many really strong businesses were nominated, we are very privileged to have won."
