The EPA is investigating the incident and is monitoring any complaints or reports of pollution in the area.
EARLIER: Hundreds of litres of diesel has leaked onto the road in East Bendigo.
A truck carrying the fuel swerved when a dog ran out onto McIvor Road, near Doak Street, CFA station officer Paul McKendrick said.
"The container he has had in the back has ruptured and all the diesel has leaked out," he said.
Most of the estimated 900 litres of fuel will need to be removed from a storm water drain, Mr McKendrick said.
Some of it has spilled onto the road.
The fuel had made the road a little greasy and sand would be used to clean it up.
The environmental protection agency and VicRoads have been contacted.
One lane of the McIvor Highway heading out of town has been blocked by emergency service vehicles, but traffic can still flow through the area.
