ANGUS Schumacher joined the growing list of Carlton debutantes this year, playing his first AFL game for the Blues on Sunday.
The former Strathfieldsaye product and Bendigo Pioneer vice-captain in 2017 was a late inclusion for veteran Dale Thomas (ill) into the Blues' side beaten by 24 points by reigning premier West Coast at Marvel Stadium.
The 20-year-old left-footer, who was already a Blues supporter before being selected by Carlton with pick 70 in the 2017 National Draft, finished with 13 disposals and four marks in his debut game.
"It's great for Angus. He's been toiling away and been close a couple of times to getting his first game, so for him to get the opportunity today is fantastic," Schumacher's former Pioneers coach Rick Coburn said.
Strathfieldsaye was also immensely proud of Schumacher, posting on its Facebook page: "Good luck to our very own Angus Schumacher, who today will realise his AFL dream and debut for Carlton. Congrats Schuey, all the best legend."
Round 20 AFL winners were: North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, GWS Giants, Fremantle, Richmond, Adelaide, Collingwood, West Coast and Brisbane.
