CAMPBELLS Creek reserves have proven the saying correct that "a week is a long time in football".
A week after it was forced to forfeit both their senior and reserves games, Campbells Creek's reserves made a winning return against Maryborough Rovers in the Maryborough-Castlemaine District league last Saturday.
The Creek's reserves came from five goals down at half-time to defeat Rovers by 17 points, 10.9 (69) to 7.10 (52).
"There was plenty of emotion, tears and hugs following the final siren... what a turnaround," Campbells Creek secretary Marg Stevens said.
The victory was the second of the season for Campbells Creek's reserves. Their first back in round three against Royal Park ended a 50-game losing streak.
While it was a winning return for Campbells Creek's reserves, the Creek's seniors were beaten by 165 points.
Although another heavy loss for the winless Campbells Creek, its score of 41 was more than double its season average of 18.
Stevens and president Scott Jones last week told the Bendigo Advertiser of the club's determination to fight its way through this year and that there is a 2020 and beyond for Campbells Creek.
"We have a proud history and it's just so worth fighting for," Stevens said.
Campbells Creek hosts Newstead in round 14 this Saturday.
