CATHERINE McAuley College students will compete with some of Australia's best, as the school enters its Polwarth stud in the Australian Sheet and Wool Show.
Agriculture teacher Shannon Kjaer said agriculture was such a popular subject that the school had introduced it to all levels, from year seven to 12.
She believes hands on learning, and agriculture's relevance to the region, is the secret of the subject's appeal.
"[Students] want to know where their food comes from and learn about new and innovative practices that look after the land and enhance their production," Ms Kjaer said.
"Some students come from farms so they already have a level of experience, and others ... don't but are just really passionate.
"There's lots of those skills, like communication skills, problem solving, collaboration, presentation skills, how they communicate with each other and teamwork."

Ms Kjaer said students looked forward to the Australian Sheep and Wool Show each year.
She hopes students will gain valuable experience as part of the show.
"They're very proud and passionate that they can be a part of it. This is their region and their community," Ms Kjaer said.
"This event, it showcases all that hard work. This is something they really do care about."
